Certificate of Insurance FAQs

What is a Certificate of Insurance?

A Certificate of Insurance (“COI”) is a summary document providing evidence of insurance coverage, in this case, evidence of insurance coverage for BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank and/or its subsidiaries or affiliates. The full contract terms, exclusions and conditions of coverage are included in the insurance policy itself.

Who issues the COI?

The COI is issued by the broker that assisted BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank in obtaining its insurance coverage and provides basic information about the coverage provided to BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank under the policies.

Is a COI evidence of insurance coverage?

Yes. The form used to provide evidence of liability insurance under the Commercial General Liability, Commercial Auto Liability, Workers Compensation and/or Umbrella Liability policies is the Acord 25 Certificate of Liability. The form used to provide evidence of Property Insurance is the Acord 28 Evidence of Property. Both forms provide “evidence” of the respective coverage parts. Both forms are documents issued by the broker that assisted BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank in obtaining its insurance coverage and provides basic information about the coverage provided to the bank under the current policies. These forms are provided for informational purposes only and to not confer rights to the certificate holder. Coverage is controlled by the terms and conditions of the insurance policy itself. It is standard for both the COI and EOP to be referred to as certificates of insurance (COI) without the need to specify one or the other.

What are the benefits of this COI website?

This website makes the COI available for viewing at any time to viewers that assent to the Terms and Conditions and provides their contact information. Displaying the COI through this website eliminates the costly and time consuming process of requesting, preparing and repeatedly issuing a paper version of the COI.

How do I know if I am an additional insured on the policy described in the COI?

If your lease or other type of agreement with BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank requires you to be listed as an additional insured, the coverage listed in the COI will honor that request as long as the carrier allows additional insureds under the policy form. The COI does not amend, extend or alter the coverage provided by the described policy.

When is the COI available through the website?

The COI is available to view on this Site at any time subject to website maintenance and updates. The COI that is available is current as of the date of issuance; it will be updated as soon as practicable following policy renewal or a material change in the coverage.

What happens if the coverage changes

The COI will be updated as soon as practicable following policy renewal or a material change in the coverage.

Will the website notify me if the coverage is cancelled?

No. Those parties entitled to notice of cancellation will receive such notice in accordance with the terms of the policy.

Does the website collect information about who views a COI?

Yes. Individuals that wish to use the website must agree to the Terms and Conditions of Use and submit their name and contact information to view COIs through the website. The contact information collected through the Terms and Conditions page is retained by BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank.

Can I print the COI from the website?

Yes. You can print the COI the same way you print any other document that you view online.

How do I print the COI from the website?

Simply view the COI, select “file” and select “print.”

How can I determine the financial rating of the carrier listed on the COI?

Authorized viewers may research any insurer listed on the COI using the A.M. Best Company website at www.ambest.com(opens in a new tab). BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank is not involved in and has no control over the A.M. Best ratings.

Who can I contact with questions about a COI?

Please contact BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank at certificaterequests@mcgriff.com with any questions related to BB&T/SunTrust/Now Truist Bank’s insurance coverage or the information made available through this website.
